History of Rasta Imposta

What happens when an aspiring playwright with an entrepreneurial spirit moves to the Jersey Shore for the summer? Rasta Imposta happens!

In 1992, Robert Berman created wool dreadlocks, glued them into a baseball cap, wore the cap out to a bar on Long Beach Island, NJ and sold it off his head for $20 and a beer. That began Rasta Imposta!

Robert met his wife, Tina, that same summer when she bought the first 12 dreadlock hats and sold them in her retail store, The Mod Hatter. The simple funny hat soon became a worldwide sensation.

Robert made new styles of novelty hats and then expanded Rasta Imposta to include costumes to complete the looks.

As the company grew, Tina, and Robert’s sister Jodi, joined Rasta Imposta as partners. Their entrepreneurial nature, intense creativity and attention to detail made the trio a powerful team.

Known for creating the humor category in Halloween costumes, today, Rasta Imposta is recognized as one of the most creative companies in the gift and costume industries.

Rasta Imposta taps into consumers wanting quick ways to dress up for parties, celebrations, events, and Halloween.

With millions of hats and costumes sold since 1992, Rasta Imposta’s philosophy and mission remains the same —Create funny, easy to wear hats and costumes that make you laugh.
